E-commerce product pages: Photos, variants and descriptions
· PoolByte Technology

The e-commerce product page is where the visitor evaluates whether the product is suitable for him or her. A beautiful photo can attract attention; However, if the size, usage condition, variant and stock information are unclear, the purchasing decision becomes difficult. This guide does not cover server selection, but rather the preparation of product information and answering pre-purchase questions on the page.
Collect product data in a single working file
Keep the name, internal product code, category, description, specifications, variants and images together for each product. Instead of pasting the supplier's description as is, tailor it to the customer's usage scenario. Units of measurement must be in the same order; Actual measurement should be given alongside vague expressions such as “large size”.
In the example of a table lamp, color and price alone are not enough. Size, material used, whether the bulb is included or not, connection type and maintenance instructions are more helpful in making the decision. Verify with the manufacturer rather than assuming the feature you don't know about. Only publish certification or durability claims if there is verifiable information about the product in question.
Select photos according to customer's questions
The cover photo should clearly show the product. Additional images can provide information about different angles, details, usage environment and scale. Shooting each frame from the same angle adds length to the gallery, but does not add new information. If a representative image is used, describe it so that it is not confused with the actual product photo; Don't present the AI image as proof of the actual product.
Add descriptive filenames and appropriate alt text to the image list. For example, the description "On button of the dark blue ceramic table lamp" is more meaningful than just saying "product image". The same approach is not applied to images used as decoration for the page layout. W3C image guide explains the selection of alternative text based on the purpose of the image.
Test variant selection and price information together
When color, size or capacity changes, product image, stock and price should be updated together. If the customer chooses the red variant and sees the blue variant in the cart, the value of beautiful design decreases. It should be understood why the unselectable options cannot be used; The default choice should not create any surprises in terms of price or content.
Create a sample test matrix: an in-stock variant, an out-of-stock variant, a differently priced option, and a no selection case. Compare the product page, cart and order summary for each. If a coupon is applied, check the discount and total calculation separately. For actual payment testing, use the business's secure testing process.
Do not withhold information that affects the decision
Up-to-date explanations about package contents, product usage restrictions and delivery can be found near the purchase button. Links regarding returns and sales conditions should be accessible; There should not be different information on the product page and the payment page. If you're showing the starting price of a campaign, specify which option it belongs to.
Only use elements like “last two items” or countdown if they are based on real system data. Explain the appropriate use and limitations of the product rather than creating artificial scarcity. Include topics from real customer conversations in frequently asked questions; Do not copy the same generic text across all products.
Keep search engine data consistent with the page
The product name and description should tell both the user and the search engine what is being sold. If product structured data is to be used, information such as price, currency and stock must be compatible with the visible content. Google's product structured data document describes the different types of product views. Even correct markup does not mean that the custom search view will be shown.
Plan variant addresses and filtered category pages with the developer. Understand the product model of the e-commerce software being used rather than opening random copy pages for each color. Do not fill SEO fields with features that do not exist about the product or irrelevant buzzwords. How the address is handled when a product is removed is also part of content management.
Control publication on a product basis
- Are the product name, code and category correct?
- Does the gallery represent the actual product and the purchased variant?
- Have the specifications been verified against the manufacturer's information?
- Is the option change reflected correctly in the cart?
- Are stock, price and visible descriptions consistent with each other?
- Are the options and buy button available on mobile?

Is it necessary to write a long description for every product?
The required length depends on the product. Compatibility information may be more decisive for a standard spare part, while material and size may be more decisive for a decorative product. Instead of lengthening the text, complete the missing parts that may cause the customer to make the wrong choice.
Is the manufacturer's description completely unusable?
Technical data must be transferred correctly; but check the permissions and terms of use. Supporting the data with your own product context, clear usage description and real photos creates a more useful page.
